Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC), the primary communications provider for the Bahamas, was looking for a way to help the victims of the 2019 Hurricane Dorian, the hurricane destroyed more than 13,000 homes and BTC wanted to create a platform to help the victims.

Damages from Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas totaled $3.4 billion, equal to about a quarter of the island nation’s annual economic output, a report by the Inter-American Development Bank said. That’s equivalent to the United States losing the combined economies of Florida, California, and Texas, the Miami Herald reported.

We knew that Bahamas Communications Company needed a way to communicate with their subscribers and also provide a secure platform to collect help from anyone who wanted to make donations and help the victims.

Messangi with years of experience in communications designed and created a secure web-based donation portal to collect for relief efforts, all BTC customers received an SMS with a link that redirects them to the portal. Subscribers could then donate predetermined amounts of money that were discounted directly from their prepaid and postpaid accounts.

As a result, the victims in the Bahamas received lots of donations from not only subscribers from BTC but also from non-subscribers that wished to help by donating, also, by creating a sense of community for the victims it helped foster a lasting relationship with them by increasing loyalty and engagement from its customers.
